French Kickboxing
You may have already witnessed the wonderful martial art of French kickboxing in certain competitions and simply not have known it. Sometimes referred to as savate kickboxing or French footfighting, French kickboxing is a form of martial art that calls on the use of both hands and feet as weapons. Pupils learn how to use their hands under the guidance of western boxing elements, and they learn to use their feet through calculate and well-balanced kicking techniques.
It should be noted that a significant difference between French kickboxing and other forms of martial arts or mixed martial arts is that only the feet are allowed to be used for kicking. Students are not allowed to use their shins, elbows or knees as in other forms of martial arts. It’s quite understandable then that savate means “old shoe,” since French kickboxers always wear shoes in the ring or on the mat, using their whole foot for foot attacks.
It works equally well for attacking purposes in competitions and for real-world self-defense purposes out on the street. That’s one of the great parts about savate kickboxing—you can choose to train in this type of kickboxing purely for fun and entertain reasons or to actually harden yourself for fighting purposes. Another huge advantage to this type of training is the inherent fitness factor. By continuously practicing the techniques of this particular type of kickboxing, you will naturally be getting a great cardio workout, tone your muscles, increase your balance and improve your reflexes.
